From Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold to Xbox Game Pass Core
Microsoft has announced a new subscription service for Xbox owners called Xbox
Game Pass Core. It will replace Xbox Live Gold and offer more benefits to
subscribers. Xbox Game Pass Core will include the usual online multiplayer on
console, deals and discounts, and a new small catalog of over 25 games. Some
of the games available are Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4, and Psychonauts 2.
Microsoft plans to add new games to the catalog two to three times a year.
On September 14th, current members of Xbox Live Gold will be automatically
switched over to Xbox Game Pass Core. The price will remain the same: $9.99
per month or $59.99 per year. This means that subscribers will no longer get
free games every month. Xbox 360 games that were redeemed in the past will be
kept in the library, but Xbox One games will require an active subscription to
Xbox Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate.
According to Jerret West, the CVP of gaming marketing at Xbox, the
introduction of Xbox Game Pass Core presented an opportunity to re-evaluate
how content is included in their subscription service. After careful
consideration, they determined that the most effective way to create an
engaging catalog was to incorporate a selection of titles from their existing
Xbox Game Pass collection.
