Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass subscription service to include an award-winning game that first debut in 2016
In a recent update, Microsoft has included
Firewatch, a critically acclaimed first-person narrative-driven adventure game from
2016, in the Xbox Game Pass. This title garnered significant recognition and
won various awards upon its initial release. August 2023 has seen a
relatively slower pace in terms of new additions to the Xbox Game Pass, but
subscribers still have some exciting games to anticipate later in the month.
Surprisingly, two more day-one game releases are in store for Xbox Game Pass
subscribers before the close of August 2023. The first is the Texas Chain
Saw Massacre game, which is set to become available on August 18. Following
that, on August 29, subscribers can look forward to Sea of Stars, a
nostalgic turn-based RPG.
Before diving into The
Texas Chain Saw Massacre
and
Sea of Stars, players can enjoy Firewatch, a game that has already achieved accolades.
Developed by Campo Santo, Firewatch tells the tale of Henry, a fire lookout
portrayed by Rich Sommer of Mad Men fame, stationed at a national park. The
narrative revolves around Henry's isolated experiences, and his
communication with coworker Delilah via a walkie-talkie.
As strange events unfold, players are drawn into a captivating mystery. The
game's performances, storyline, and immersive ambiance received significant
praise in 2016. Those who haven't yet experienced Firewatch now have the
perfect opportunity to do so through Xbox Game Pass.
It's worth noting that Firewatch isn't new to Xbox Game Pass. It was
initially introduced to the service in 2021 before being temporarily
removed, making its return a pleasant surprise. Lately, Microsoft has been
focusing on incorporating critically acclaimed indie games into Xbox Game
Pass.
August began with the addition of the well-received platformer, Celeste,
while the arrival of Gris in September 2023 has also been confirmed. This
move could be part of a strategy to enhance the Xbox Game Pass library
alongside day-one releases, although it might just be coincidental.
Speaking of day-one releases, the
Xbox Game Pass lineup
for September 2023 looks exceptionally promising. Subscribers can anticipate
titles like Lies of P and Payday 3. However, the highlight undoubtedly lies
in the addition of Bethesda's Starfield, which is scheduled to join Xbox
Game Pass on September 6. [no_toc]
