Premier League season kicks off with Chelsea and Liverpool settling for a 1-1 draw
In the Premier League season's opening match, the new Chelsea coach,
Mauricio Pochettino, witnessed his reconstructed team display resilience to
secure a 1-1 draw against Liverpool. The debutant defender, Axel Disasi,
managed to level the score after Luis Diaz had given Liverpool the lead.
The game featured two teams that struggled last season. Diaz posed a threat
to spoil Pochettino's first competitive game as Chelsea's coach,
capitalizing on a precise pass from Mohamed Salah in the 18th minute to net
a goal. Despite Liverpool's attempt to double their advantage, Salah's
subsequent goal was disallowed due to an offside call.
Chelsea persevered through the pressure and managed to equalize in the 37th
minute. Disasi, the French international recently acquired from AS Monaco,
capitalized on a chaotic situation during a corner kick to slot the ball
home from close range after a header from Ben Chilwell.
Although Chilwell managed to put the ball in the net soon after, VAR ruled
that he was in an offside position. The second half saw Chelsea dominating
possession but unable to secure another goal. As the game neared its end, a
deflected shot from Liverpool's substitute, Darwin Nunez, nearly clinched a
victory. [no_toc]
